Translations and consultations costs for the proposed Scots Languages Bill: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

I am requesting the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and any other relevant pieces of legislation:

  • What organisation(s) were used for any translations of the consultation for the proposed Scots Languages Bill.
  • What organisation(s) were used for any translations of the "Building a New Scotland papers".
  • A breakdown of costs associated with any translating of the "Building a New Scotland papers".”

Response

Part 1

No organisations were used for the Scots translations required for the Scottish Languages Bill. Translations were undertaken by freelance Scots translators.

Part 2

The Scottish Government has a Publishing, Print, Design and Associated Services (PPDAS) contract in place with APS Group for all design, print and publishing work. APS Group manage these services for the “Building a New Scotland” series of papers, which includes translations, therefore this is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government did not hold some of the requested information at the time of your request.

Outwith FOISA, I have contacted APS and can inform you that Linguatext Ltd is the organisation used for translating the “Building a New Scotland” series of papers.

Part 3

Details of the translation costs of all papers in the Building a New Scotland series to date can be found on the Scottish Government’s website at:

Building a New Scotland papers: costs - gov.scot (www.gov.scot)

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website listed above, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.
