Environment Minister urges flood-hit communities to apply for funding to aid recovery.
The Scottish Government has donated £100,000 to a recovery appeal designed to help individuals and communities affected by the extreme flooding as a result of Storms Desmond, Eva and Frank.
Environment Minister Aileen McLeod is calling on community groups and individuals who are eligible for the funding to apply for grants through Foundation Scotland, which has raised £600,000. Individuals can apply for up to £1000 for costs relating to clean up, emergency repairs, clothing, food and drink, and heating costs. Community groups and charities can apply for up to £10,000 if they are providing immediate relief to those affected, longer term community rebuilding projects or if they themselves have experienced flood damage.
Dr McLeod said:
"Communities across Scotland experienced unusually high levels of flooding this winter as a result of the very extreme weather conditions we experienced. Up and down the country the recovery process is still underway and I would urge as many people as possible who were affected by the floods to apply for funding through Foundation Scotland.
"The Flood Recovery Appeal has already handed out more than £210,000 to 232 households already and there is still money in the pot for those who have not yet applied."
Giles Ruck, CEO of Foundation Scotland, said:
"The funding from the Scottish Government is a significant boost to our Flood Recovery Appeal. It will ensure that we can reach more households and community groups whose lives have been devastated by the unprecedented flooding at the start of the year. Having heard first hand individual accounts of the difficulties they are now facing, the grants we offer through our appeal will go some way to alleviate this hardship."
The Flood Recovery Appeal was launched on January 8 2016 in response to the flooding experienced by communities across Scotland as a result of Storms Desmond, Eva and Frank.
