Communities urged to plan ahead for further flooding.

As weather forecast and flood warning alerts remain in place, local communities have been urged to remain vigilant and check their flood plans.

Dr Aileen McLeod said:

"Our partner agencies have been working constantly to give us an accurate indication of the weather forecast over the coming days.

"With further rainfall forecast in many areas already saturated we expect more flooding, which will have a significant impact on those local communities.

"While our emergency responders are already planning ahead to ensure that local service are supported to cope with the extra pressures, it's important that the public understand their role in protecting our communities.

"With flooding it pays to be prepared. You can check if your home or business is at risk on the Floodline website or by calling 0345 988 1188. You can even get free warnings sent direct by phone, email or text message. The Floodline website also has advice and simple tools to help you take action and reduce the risk of flooding on you, your family, property or business.

"I also urge people to take extreme care if travelling as the road conditions can be dangerous. It is essential that people follow local advice from police or the fire service on road closures and weather warnings."
