Help for women and girls in Africa

Comic Relief teams up with Scottish Government.

The Scottish Government has joined forces with Comic Relief to improve the economic wellbeing of women and girls in Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda.

£1.2 million will go to the charity’s international Sport for Change programme using sport to help women and girls have a voice in their community and reach their full potential.

Specific projects to increase confidence, build self-esteem and reduce violence against women and girls, will be developed.

This funding will help contribute to the United Nation’s Global Goal 5 – to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

International Development Minister Alasdair Allan said:

“Empowering women and girls has a knock-on effect, and helps drive up economic growth and development in some of the world’s poorest countries.

“Our partnership with Comic Relief will use sport to help enable women and girls to reach their full potential in Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda.

“Comic Relief launched their application process today and I would encourage eligible organisations already working in this area to apply.”
