Commissions Position Paper - European Commission Paper, published December 2012, outlining the Commissions expectations for ESI investment in the UK

Europe 2020 - European Union strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth

European Regional Development Fund ( ERDF) - European fund for supporting regional and local development

European Social Fund ( ESF) - European fund for investing in people, creating employment opportunities, promoting education, and supporting those most vulnerable people at risk of poverty.

European Structural Funds - ERDF & ESF

European Structural and Investment Funds - European Structural Funds, Cohesion Fund, European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, and European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.

More Developed Region - NUTS 2 regions whose GDP per capita is above 90% of the average GDP of the EU-27 with a differentiated treatment for regions which are eligible under the convergence objective in 2007 - 2013.

Lead Partners - Body responsible for managing the SDPs

Operations - Projects, schemes or programmes eligible for ESI funds

Operational Programmes - document setting out the implementation arrangements for each ESI fund

Partnership Agreement - document setting out how the UK programmes will align with Europe 2020 and how the ESI funds will be invested.

Partnership Agreement Monitoring Committee ( PAMC) - Body responsible for monitoring the implementation and performance of the Scottish Themed Funds.

R&D&I - Research, development and innovation

Simplification Agenda - European Union policy for reducing bureaucracy

Strategic Delivery Partnerships ( SDPs) - Bodies responsible for monitoring ESI funded operations

Thematic Objectives - Objectives that have been set in line with Europe 2020
