Student funding for postgraduate Education: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

FOI reference: FOI/17/01133
Date received: 13 July 2017
Date responded: 27 July 2017

Information Requested

Please forward me the freedom of information document that would tend to prove the point of the PGCE in England not being funded, rather than my deducing from implicit language that it is funded.

Response

Information on the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) taught in England is not widely available from SAAS due to the course(s) being delivered in another country. In Scotland, the comparable qualification in teacher training is the Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). Information available on our website/ in our guides on teacher training qualifications are directed at the PGDE. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Student Awards Agency Scotland does not hold some of the information you have requested.

Our website www.saas.gov.uk provides information for students wishing to apply for funding to attend courses at institutions outwith Scotland. We provide information on tuition fee loans within our funding guidance and eligibility of applying for a PGDE in regards to previous study. Copies can be found at: http://www.saas.gov.uk/_forms/sas4.pdf http://www.saas.gov.uk/_forms/previous_study.pdf
