I attach a copy of some of the information you requested. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have all of the information you have requested. However, you may wish to contact the City of Edinburgh Council who may be able to supply information on any funding that it allocated to Men In Childcare.

INFORMATION PROVIDED

Annual Funding amounts paid to Men In Childcare from the Scottish Government since funding began:

In 2005/06 Men In Childcare received £70,000 funding from the Scottish Government. Subsequently the project has been allocated £45,000 per year, for the financial years 2006/07 to 2017/18.

Annual Numbers of men who have undertaken courses through Men In Childcare since the programme began and a breakdown of course types

2005/06 - 133 men enrolled on the Introductory course and 95 on the Fast Track course. 2010/11 - 155 students enrolled on the Introductory and Fast Track courses 2013-16 - 374 students started the Introductory course and 154 started the Fast Track course 2016/17 - 97 students participated in the Introductory and Fast track courses.

Course types

Introduction to Early Education and Childcare - One evening per week for 16 weeks. The Introduction to Childcare course gives an insight into how children learn and develop. On successful completion participants will have attained (2) ½ SQA approved Modules in Early Years Childcare.

Fast Track course - This course comprises of 2 full modules one evening per week over a 16 week period. Successful completion of the course may allow progression to HNC Early Education and Childcare.

2013-16 - 188 students completed the introductory course and 113 completed the Fast track course.

Annual Numbers of men who have undertaken further studies in Early Years Childcare (HNC, SVQ or BA childhood practice) courses through Men In Childcare since the programme began and a breakdown of course types

  • 2005/06 -14 men undertook studies at HNC level.
  • 2013-16 – 74 men started the HNC course
  • 2016/17 - 26 students applied for and were awaiting confirmation of their successful HNC or SVQ3 applications.

  • 2013-16 – 59 men completed the HNC course

Any information relating to career and/or academic development of men who have been through the Men in Childcare programme.

  • In February 2018 Men in Childcare undertook a final destination survey of men that had undertaken training in the last 3 years. 67 men responded to the survey request,representing 29.7% of the total number of trainees. Of those that responded:

  • 25 are working as Practitioners in ELC destinations

  • 6 are working as Practitioners in non-funded destinations
  • 6 are Practitioners destinations not specified
  • 8 continue to study SVQ level 3
  • 8 continue to study HNC
  • 6 have completed modules 1& 2
  • 5 non completers planning to re-register in September 2018
  • 2 non-registered – withdrew
  • 1 HNC – fail

Any discussions regarding further funding to the Men In Childcare organisation between the Scottish Government and any representative of the Men In Childcare organisation.

  • Discussions regarding further funding for Men In Childcare will take place towards the end of the grant funding period, which is 30 June 2018.

REASONS FOR NOT PROVIDING INFORMATION

Annual Funding amounts paid to Men In Childcare from Edinburgh Council since funding began:

  • The Scottish Government does not have this information as it would be held by another authority.

Where annual information for the period 2006/07-2011/12 has not been included, this is because either:

  • It was routinely destroyed, in accordance with our standard records management practice, before the date of your request; or
  • This level of information was not requested as part of the Scottish Government's monitoring process:
