Private residential tenancy: information for landlords

Guidance for private sector landlords on the Private Housing (Tenancies) (Scotland) Act 2016.

Sources of training, advice and support

  1. Three free training courses for landlords and practitioners.

  2. A short video about the new private residential tenancy.

  3. A short video about the Scottish Government Model Private Residential Tenancy Agreement online tool (a simple and accessible tool that landlords can use to produce a tenancy agreement. It can be downloaded as a Word document or PDF).

  4. A short video that provides clarity on important issues landlords have raised in relation to the Scottish Government Model Private Residential Tenancy Agreement online tool.

If you are unsure of your rights and responsibilities as a landlord you should get advice as quickly as possible. You may be able to get this from an organisation which gives advice on housing matters such as your local council, Shelter Scotland or your local Citizens Advice Bureau, or from a solicitor.

If you've not already done so, you may wish to consider joining a membership organisation that offers support and advice to landlords, such as the Scottish Association of Landlords.
