Senior appointments

Our public sector pay policy for senior appointments (within the public sector pay policy) covers:

  • remuneration proposals for chief executives of non-departmental public bodies, public corporations and the like
  • remuneration proposals for NHS Scotland executives and senior managers (grades D to I)
  • the daily fees paid to chairs and members appointed by Scottish Ministers to public bodies

Acceptance and remuneration of non-executive directorships

We aim to encourage senior officers and appointees to make appropriate contributions to the work of other bodies, so that:

  • they broaden their experience
  • other bodies may benefit from their expertise
  • their contribution to their own employer is enhanced

However, it is important to ensure that:

  • there is no conflict of interest
  • the time commitment is appropriate
  • arrangements for remuneration are seen to be appropriate
