Response

In relation to your request, trunk roads are not "adopted" in the manner described. Trunk roads, within boundaries defined in our extent of unit document (attached), are maintained by Transport Scotland, as the road authority, in accordance with the Road Scotland Act 1984. The land on which the trunk road lies may not be owned by Scottish Ministers, also land out with/ adjacent to the trunk road boundary may be owned by Scottish Ministers.

In terms of the areas shown in the attached documents Annexes A – H, Transport Scotland are responsible for maintenance of the trunk road, in the area of the plan you have been provided with, from "boundary to boundary". In the area shown this would be "boundary to boundary", mainly in the area shown this can be assumed to be fence line to fence line. Further details of this can be found in Transport Scotland's Extent of Unit document, which can be found at Annex I (attached).
