Response

The information you have requested in part 1) is available from the Scottish Government website in the School Education Statistics section, in Tables 2.9 and 3.11 of the teacher census supplementary data:

The information you have requested in part 3) is available in the announcement by the Scottish Funding Council on the 'intakes and funded places for the controlled subject of Initial Teacher Education for academic year 2017-18', available here:

The equivalent information for academic year 2018-19 will be published by the Scottish Funding Council in due course.

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the websites listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested in part 2). The reasons why we don't have the information are explained below.

Reasons for not providing information

The Scottish Government does not have the information:

Section 17(1) of FOISA (information not held) requires the Scottish Government to notify you if it does not have the information you requested. The Scottish Government does not have information on the numbers of teachers in Scotland graduating qualified to teach Gaelic because this something administered by the higher education institutions that provide the teacher training courses.
