Information requested

1. Do you collect data on the number of individuals with a diagnosis of ADHD:

a. in full-time employment

b. in full-time employment, by sector

c. out of work/unemployed

d. receiving out-of-work benefits

e. in further education.

2. If so, can we see this data, in a comparison with those without a diagnosis of ADHD.

3. do you collect data on the number of individuals with a diagnosis of ASD:

a. in full-time employment

b. in full-time employment, by sector

c. out of work/unemployed

d. receiving out-of-work benefits

e. in further education.

4. If so, can we see this data, in a comparison with those without a diagnosis of ASD.

5. do you collect data on the number of individuals with an ASN:

6. If so, can we see this data, in a comparison with those without an ASN.

7. Do you have in place an electronic recording system that can link health and mental health data (i.e. diagnosis of ADHD, ASD; prescription of medications) and employment data?

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

1. In response to Q7 the Scottish Government does not have an electronic recording system that can link health and mental health data (i.e. diagnosis of ADHD, ASD; prescription of medications) and employment data.

The Scottish Government does hold and publish data related to employability services which contain some information on health conditions. https://beta.gov.scot/publications/scotlands-devolved-employment-services-work-first-scotland-work-scotland-2017-9781788516792/

2. In response to Q8-10 the Scottish Government does not have any specific employment targets for the groups ADHD, ASD, ASN.

There is are 2 relevant Scottish Government target which are shown below:

Although we do not have specific targets for these groups, disabled people are priority groups for a number of Scottish Government employability services, including Scotland's Employer Recruitment Incentive and Community Jobs Scotland which are available for young people. Fair Start Scotland – our new devolved employment service will commence in April this year and support at least 38,000 people over three years of referrals. Disabled people are a priority for this support, which will provide up to 12 month pre-work support (extending to 18 months in some circumstances) and 12 months in-work support.

3. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The reasons why we don't have the information are explained below.

The Scottish Government does not have the information.

In response to Q1-6

Information on economic status of individuals is held by the Scottish Government from the Annual Population Survey and the Labour Force Survey. This is the official source of Labour Market Information. This also provides a breakdown by main health condition. It is not possible to provide information for the conditions you have asked for ADHD, ASD, ASN.

However there is information on the conditions below:

a. Severe or specific learning difficulties

b. Mental illness, or suffer from phobia, panics or other nervous disorders

c. Other health problems or disabilities.

In response to Q11, Q12

The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because this information would be held by Job Centre Plus. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

You may wish to contact the Department of Work and Pensions who may be able to help you with your enquiry about benefits and jobcentre data.

In response to Q13,14,15

The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because this information would be held by Skills Development Scotland. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
