Response

Question 1: In how many homes has superfast broadband been installed in under the R100 programme? Please break this down by financial year and council area.

You have since clarified that you were referring to cases where a connection has been delivered through the R100 programme and where the owner/resident has subsequently requested a broadband service. You also clarified that you were seeking data for all premises (business and residential) connected through R100.

The R100 programme is delivered through three key strands of activity - the R100 contracts, the R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (R100 SBVS) and continued commercial build. The table below provides the number of premises in each local authority area that have taken up a superfast broadband service following R100 contract build in the area. Unfortunately, we do not hold take-up information by financial year for premises built through the R100 contracts.

* values less than 5 have been redacted to prevent identification of individuals. The above data is correct as at 20 February 2024.

We do not hold take-up data for premises that have had a service delivered commercially, i.e. a connection that has not been delivered as a result of the R100 contracts or R100 SBVS.

Question 2: How much has been spent on the R100 programme? Please break this down by financial year and council area.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. We are unable to provide a breakdown of spend by local authority area as funding for delivery of the R100 programme – which includes both the R100 contracts and R100 SBVS - is not distributed on a local authority area basis.

For information, please see the below table detailing actual spend for the R100 programme to date. Please note that the spend for year 2023/24 is as of 01 February 2024 as the current financial year is still ongoing.
