Drug consumption rooms: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

1. Total expense by month since January 2020 related to drug consumption rooms. Where applicable please break this down by object of expenditure and how this is accounted by the Scottish Government.

2. Total expense, by month since January 2021, on the Glasgow drug consumption room pilot. Where applicable please break this down by object of expenditure and how this is accounted by the Scottish Government.

3. A complete list of data points/categories collected by the Scottish Government or any other public body on drug consumption rooms, including the Glasgow drug consumption room pilot.

4. If the Scottish Government is aware of information being collected on drug consumption rooms by a public body whose data is not directly accessed by the Scottish Government, the names of those public bodies and the information they are known to collect on drug consumption rooms.

I asked for clarification on question 3 which was received: "With the third question, I was looking for information on what information the Scottish Government collects, or plans to collect, that is relevant for evaluating the success of drug consumption rooms. This might include things like the amount of use seen by the drug consumption rooms, surveyed feedback on the drug consumption rooms, or any kind of measure related to reduced harms due to drug consumption rooms (such as reduced incidence of common needle-borne diseases amongst users of the rooms). If no such data is collected/is currently planned to be collected, a statement to that effect would suffice.

Response

The answer to question 1 is there has been no expense since January 2020 related to drug consumption rooms.

The answer to question 2 is that there has been no expense since January 2021 on the Glasgow drug consumption room pilot.

The answer to question 3 is that this is not something we have as the evaluation is not being carried out by Scottish Government, it has not yet been decided by Glasgow which information will be collected.

The answer to question 4 is the Glasgow Alcohol and Drug Partnership will be collecting information on the drug consumption pilot in Glasgow.
