Pension Age Winter Heating Payment consultation: easy read

This consultation is to gather evidence on people’s views of the current benefit, consider how we could improve the system already in place and ask if the policy intent set out will best meet the needs of those it aims to help.

Re-determination and appeals

A person can ask for a decision made by Social Security Scotland to be looked at again if they think it is not right.

This is called a re-determination.

We are planning that when a person has been given a decision, they have 31 days to ask for a re-determination.

If the request is refused, the person has 31 days to appeal to a group called a tribunal.

We think that Social Security Scotland should have 56 days to make the new decision.

If there is no decision in those 56 days, the person has a right to appeal to a group called a tribunal.
